Re-grooving
- The re-grooving of tyres is a process by which more tread is added to a tyre.
- Tyre re-grooving should be carried with 3 – 4mm of tread remaining on a tyre.
- Re-grooving a tyre adds 25% on to its lifespan, and can save you money on fuel.
Twinning
- Tyre twinning is a process by which tyres with similar treads are placed together on a vehicle.
- Tyre twinning should be carried out whenever a new tyre is fitted on a vehicle.
- Twinning is used to maximize the lifespan of a tyre by preventing uneven wear before it’s too late.
Tyre Turning
- Tyre turning involves the flipping of a tyre on the rim, therefore swapping the inner and outer edges.
- Tyre turning should be carried out when uneven wear is identified.
- Tyre turning can increase mileage by 20%, and will also aid with any future re-grooving and remoulding.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring
- Tyre pressure checking is an integral part of tyre management.
- Tyre pressure checking should be carried out during fleet checks, unless otherwise stated.
- A tyre 8psi underinflated will have a reduced lifespan of up to 20%, and will increase fuel consumption.
