Campaign For Better Tyres Launched
by Richard on March 31st, 2011
Environmental Protection UK and Minister for Transport Norman Baker have officially launched their Campaign For Better Tyres in London this week.
The campaign’s aim is to make private motorists and fleet operators think more about their choice of tyres, which can have a big impact on the environment and your pocket.

With road transport forming an essential part of our economy and our every day lives, and with costs of fuel spiralling across the country it has become ever more important that your vehicle has the right tyres fitted.
The new generation of energy efficient tyres coming on to the market can help to improve fuel economy, whilst also helping to reduce noise pollution and carbon dioxide emissions.
As well as informing people of the benefits of this new generation of tyres, the campaign also aims to provide simple and straight forward advice on caring for your tyres to further improve vehicle performance. One of the cornerstones of proper tyre maintenance is maintaining the correct tyre pressure, and manufacturers can provide you with the correct pressure details for your tyre size.
Many people are now placing much more importance on the initial cost of their tyres, rather than the long term cost benefits, and with the wide range of low cost budget tyres available on the market, and many people feeling the pinch right now you can understand why, but it is this short term thinking that Environmental Protection UK hopes to change.
Although Tyrenet’s role within the fleet tyre management sector has always been to reduce your tyre spend by regularly servicing your tyres rather than replacing them, many of the principles of tyre management used by Tyrenet and its comprehensive dealer network including regular fleet inspections and pressure checks overlap with the principles of improving tyre and vehicle efficiency, and our services can go a long way towards helping reduce more than just your tyre bill!
So what really works better for you; A saving right now visible in black and white? Or a greater long term saving later?
Give us a call and see what our tyre management services can do for you.
Tyre Exports From US Predicted To Grow In 2011
by Richard on March 28th, 2011
Rubber Manufacturers Association figures are predicting a 3% rise in US tyre exports for 2011.

The majority of this rise is likely to be made up of OE tyres for both the new van and truck markets, and in total will equate to an extra 8 million units leaving the US for a number of foreign markets.
Although the figures are good news for tyre manufacturers in the States, the figures do show a downward trend for growth in comparison with figures for 2010 where US tyre shipments grew by 9.7% on the previous year. This saw a jump of 25 million units compared with 2009 exports, with a total of 285 million tyres leaving US shores.
It is not known what effect the recent tsunami will have on Japanese tyre manufacturers, and although other manufacturers around the world may fill the void left by Japanese product shortages in the short term, it has been reported that Toyo has already restarted production and limited supply from its facility in the badly damaged city of Sendai.
Inflate Your Tyres – Not Your Fuel Bill
by Richard on March 22nd, 2011
With everyone feeling the pinch at the moment, many people are looking at effective ways to make savings. One of the major expenses for the majority of people at the moment is fuel, and prices continue to spiral out of control.

A recent study by a major tyre manufacturer has shown that across Europe 71% of us are throwing money down the drain simply by not keeping on top of our tyre pressures.
With more than two thirds of European car owners driving on underinflated tyres we are wasting around 2 billion litres of fuel per year. With prices in the UK verging on the ridiculous, that equates to around £2.4 billion per year.
And not only is this hurting us in the pocket, but it is also hurting the environment as this has caused us to release an additional 4.8 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
Tyrenet recommends that you check your pressures on a regular basis at your local petrol station. For more information on the correct pressure for your tyres, please check with your manufacturer or your local independent tyre dealer.
